Course Overview
This course is designed for learners who would like to gain a deeper understanding of substance abuse and its impact on child abuse and neglect. This learning session will describe substance abuse and its impact on children and families, as well as best practice strategies that address these complex problems.
Course Objectives
After completing this course, learners will:
- Acquire a deeper awareness of the impact of caregiver substance abuse on children and youth.
- Understand substance abuse, child abuse, abandonment, and neglect definitions.
- Understand child welfare issues that arise when caregivers acquire addictions.
- Become aware of service delivery barriers.
- Learn about the cost of untreated problems of substance abuse, child abuse and neglect.
- Understand effective intervention.
